Hi all. We just wondered do Tukish Mothers Celebrate Mothers Day? And if so do they celebrate the same day?

Yes, they do! In Turkey it's called "Annenin Günü", like in most countries celebrations are on 2nd Sunday in May, you'll see flowers and sweets for Mother's Day in most shops.

Mothers day around the world is on the 2nd sunday in May, for some reason we choose to be different in the UK (& i think ireland)

Thats because today is Mothering Sunday not Mother's day. Mothering Sunday was the day when boys and girls in service in the UK and Ireland got a day off to visit their mother and this was traditionally the 2nd Sunday of Lent. The 2nd of May Mother's Day was invented by advertisers, like Father's day etc. to sell more cards and flowers (or is that too cynical). So we in the UK and Ireland should really have two days of breakfast in bed, flowers and putting our feet up.....now where did I put those chocolates?

Thanks waverly. We knew a little about the day that they used to take off and go and visit the parents. We agree though it has all changed and become to cynically commercial.
